BRINE was created by Andrews, Creek and Pickett as a collective to serve dance artists in the Salt Lake City area. BRINE works to provide opportunities for choreographers, dancers and designers to create an event that holds varying artistic visions in one concert.
Symmer Andrews is an SLC native and has been dancing since the age of three. She has several interests; her biggest passion for dance. Since graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Botany, with minors in dance, zoology, and chemistry, she has been indulging in the dance community by being a body in motion. Symmer is both pursuing dance projects of her own as a co-producer of BRINE as well as working with others in the community.
Ashley Creek is a Salt Lake City based dance artist with a BFA in modern dance from the the University of Utah. She is currently a co-director of Brine and a teacher with Ballet West. She started dancing at 5 years old with Miss Margene's Creative Generation Studio. She received the Elizabeth R. Hayes scholarship and went on tour with Performing Dance Company to France during her time at the U. Ashley has a background in theatre and has choreographed community theatre shows across the valley. Ashley has performed in works by Martha Graham, Charlotte Boye-Christensen, LajaMartin, Andy Noble, Gesel Mason, Nicolas Cendese, Eric Handman, Sara Pickett, Natalie Desch and Margene Conde. She is a company member of Myriad Dance. When she isn't dancing Ashley is an avid hiker, sci-fi/ fantasy bookworm and a lover of good brunches.
Sara Pickett is a dance educator and choreographer in the Salt Lake City area currently working as an Assistant Professor at the University of Utah School of Dance. Sara received her MFA in Modern Dance from the University of Utah as a recipient of a University Teaching Award, and her Bachelor of Arts in Dance from Weber State University where she was the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships including the Lindquist Creative Arts Fellowship. Sara danced professionally with Rick Robinson’s Total Control, and was a core member of Millennium, a hip hop dance company in Denver, Co. with Kenny Jimenez. She is a co-producer of BRINE, a concert of dance works presented in Salt Lake City. Sara’s choreography has been performed at the University of Utah, Weber State University, Utah Valley University, Brigham Young University, the American College Dance Association, Lagoon Park, and the Colorado Academy of the Arts, among others.
William Peterson is a lighting designer based out of Ogden, Utah. He holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Theatre Arts: Design/Tech from Weber State University. William has assisted lighting designers in New York City at 59E59 Theatres and El Museo Del Bario, and has designed for various dance academies in the Northern Utah area. He has worked in various capacities at the Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts, Peery's Egyptian Theatre, Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, the Ellen Eccles Theatre, and more.
He was awarded a National Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Regional Award for Excellence in Lighting Design.William believes in working on theatre that makes a difference - theatre that can inspire and cause others to reflect on life. William is also the resident God of Luminescence for Brine and has been involved with the project since the first show in fall of 2015.
